On the eighth anniversary of his death, Lieutenant General Abdulrab al-Shadadi, former commander of the Third Military Region, is remembered by Yemeni officials and the public. General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, former Vice President of Yemen, paid tribute to al-Shadadi, describing him as a pivotal figure during a critical period in the country's conflict with the Houthi rebels.

In a statement to Barran Press, al-Ahmar lauded al-Shadadi's courage and unwavering loyalty, stating that he "faced the Houthi militia with vigor, courage, and devotion at a time of near-total absence of leadership." Al-Ahmar emphasized al-Shadadi's multifaceted role, characterizing him as "the commander, the soldier, the guide, and the support" of the Republic, remaining faithful to the revolution's goals until he died in battle.

Al-Ahmar's statement highlighted al-Shadadi's lasting impact on not only himself but all Yemenis, for embodying "an ideal example of courage, sacrifice, and dedication." He underscored the importance of remembering and honoring loyal leaders who dedicate themselves to their country and its people, using them as role models for future generations striving for freedom and dignity.

Al-Shadadi was killed on October 7, 2016, while leading the fight against the Houthis in the Serwah district of Marib Governorate. Al-Ahmar recounted his knowledge of al-Shadadi, having observed his military career from its beginning, praising his discipline and accomplishments. He considered al-Shadadi's final command of the Third Military Region as “a final exam passed with distinction,” a testament to his leadership during a time of national crisis.

Al-Ahmar's remembrance extended to other fallen commanders, including Brigadier General Hamid Hamid al-Qushaibi, Major General Ali Nasser Hadi, Major General Nasser Ali al-Dhaibani, Major General Ahmed Saif al-Yafei, and Major General Amin Abdullah al-Waili, praising their sacrifices for the higher cause of freedom. He expressed solace in the knowledge that Yemen continues to produce brave and virtuous men who defend the revolution and the republic.

In closing, al-Ahmar called for continued struggle against what he termed the "corruption of sectarianism and regionalism," praying for the longevity of those who continue the fight for a fully liberated Yemen. A previous eulogy issued by al-Ahmar described al-Shadadi as a crucial pillar of the Republic, steadfast in Marib when others faltered, and instrumental in pushing back against the Houthi insurgency.
