The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has urged the Houthi movement, designated as a terrorist organization, to release journalists Mohamed Al-Miyahi and Fouad Al-Nahari immediately.

In a statement reviewed by Barran Press, the federation detailed that Houthi gunmen stormed Al-Miyahi’s apartment in Sana'a on September 20, 2024, seizing electronic devices before forcibly taking him to an unknown location.

Earlier in September, the Houthi group also abducted journalist Al-Nahari, with no further information provided about his current status or whereabouts.

The IFJ highlighted the ongoing suffering of Yemeni journalists who have been detained for years, including those kidnapped by the Houthis and others held by Al-Qaeda and the Southern Transitional Council.

IFJ Secretary-General Anthony Bellanger strongly condemned the hostile working environment and climate of fear faced by journalists in Yemen, endangering their safety. He stated, "Our colleague Mohamed Al-Miyahi is the latest example of journalists who must be released immediately and unconditionally."

Bellanger called on the de facto authorities and other armed groups to cease obstructing the work of journalists and to free all unjustly detained reporters.

The Houthi movement has ramped up its abduction campaign over the past month, targeting journalists, activists, and civilians in areas under its control, coinciding with the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution that ended the oppressive Imamate rule and established a republic based on freedom, democracy, and equal citizenship.
