The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Monday that Yemen requires urgent funding of $15.7 million to address basic needs.
In a statement published on its official website, UNHCR highlighted that years of devastating conflict have left 18.2 million people in Yemen reliant on humanitarian aid for survival. The prolonged violence has led to a severe deterioration in living conditions, with millions suffering from food and medicine shortages, as well as widespread displacement.
The agency warned that the critical funding shortfall jeopardizes assistance for the most vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees who depend on cash aid to meet their essential needs for food, medicine, and education.
Additionally, the UNHCR noted that millions of Yemenis lack proper documentation, which further restricts their access to essential services and legal protection.
The agency called on the international community to provide urgent financial support to Yemen to prevent further humanitarian deterioration and to ensure the protection of civilians.
