The internationally recognized Yemeni government renewed its call for international support on Tuesday to address the humanitarian and economic crises in the country, while also seeking to bolster its capabilities to protect its territorial waters and deter Houthi aggression.

In a statement delivered to the UN Security Council by Yemen's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al Saadi, the government highlighted the urgent need for economic assistance to establish a long-term recovery framework and to combat the ongoing escalation by the Houthi militia.

The Yemeni government reiterated its commitment to a comprehensive, fair, and sustainable peace process, emphasizing the importance of reaching a political solution based on existing agreements, including the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

Al Saadi expressed support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy and regional initiatives, particularly those led by Saudi Arabia and Oman, aimed at facilitating a political resolution to the Yemeni crisis.

The statement also condemned the Houthi militia, designated as a terrorist organization, for perpetuating conflict, crises, and human rights violations since their takeover of the legitimate government. The government accused the Houthis of systematic policies of impoverishment and starvation to control the population, exacerbating Yemen’s humanitarian situation.

The Yemeni government criticized the Houthis for their lack of commitment to peace and their ongoing military escalations, which threaten international shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The government urged the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities by enforcing arms embargoes on Iran and increasing pressure on the Houthis to engage in peace efforts.

Furthermore, the government condemned the ongoing obstruction of humanitarian assistance by the Houthis, including the recent kidnapping of dozens of employees from international and local organizations. The government called for decisive action from the UN to protect humanitarian workers and ensure their safety, urging for the immediate release of those detained by the Houthis.

In conclusion, the Yemeni government emphasized its commitment to economic, financial, and administrative reforms to alleviate the suffering of its citizens and called for sustained international support to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
