Abdullah Al-Bakri, the Deputy Governor of Marib, officially launched the 2024-2025 agricultural and advisory season on Thursday by distributing potato tubers and tomato seedlings to 600 smallholder farmers in the Marib city and Wadi districts of northeastern Yemen.
During the launch, Al-Bakri stated that this initiative would help strengthen the resilience of farmers and mitigate the impacts of ongoing conflict, ultimately improving economic and living conditions. He emphasized the essential need for farmers to receive such support, particularly in seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural inputs, to enhance their production capabilities.
Al-Bakri also praised the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its humanitarian role and support for the agricultural sector, which is crucial for recovery efforts, noting that agriculture is a key economic sector in the province, employing a significant portion of the local population.
Ali Bahiq, the Acting Director of the Agriculture and Irrigation Office in the province, explained that the distribution includes 200 tons of potato seeds for 400 farmers and one million tomato seedlings for 200 farmers. Additionally, a seven-month advisory program will be implemented for farmers, led by 20 agricultural engineers and technicians.
