Local authorities in Marib province held discussions on October 22, 2024, regarding future projects and current interventions by Oxfam in various sectors within the province. The meeting featured Marib Deputy Governor Dr. Abd Rabbu Miftah and Oxfam’s Country Director for Yemen, Fran Butsch.
Deputy Governor Miftah highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian and living conditions for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the province, attributing these challenges to the prolonged conflict and diminishing support from international organizations. He emphasized the necessity for Oxfam to continue and expand its interventions and projects, as well as to support executive offices and the Executive Unit for IDP camps in their efforts to alleviate the suffering of displaced families.
Miftah commended Oxfam for its previous efforts, noting that the organization had significantly contributed to meeting essential needs in the water sector and services for both IDPs and host communities.
In response, Fran Butsch underscored that Marib is a top priority for Oxfam’s projects due to its critical needs within Yemen. He assured that the organization’s initiatives would continue, with plans to enhance the scale of its interventions, and he acknowledged the local authority's role in facilitating Oxfam’s work.
