Cholera Outbreak in Taiz: 43 Deaths and Over 6,000 Cases Reported

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the Public Health and Population Office in Taiz Governorate, located in southwestern Yemen, reported 43 deaths due to acute watery diarrhea and cholera since the beginning of the year.

In a statement from the health office's media department, it was noted that the total number of cholera and acute watery diarrhea cases has reached 6,682, with 781 cases confirmed through laboratory testing.

The statement also highlighted that there have been 2,542 cases of dengue fever and other fevers reported this year, with no recorded fatalities or hemorrhagic cases related to these illnesses. Additionally, the office reported 1,286 suspected cases of measles over the past months, including 8 fatalities.

Earlier this year, the World Health Organization issued a warning about the outbreak of several diseases in Yemen, citing a concerning rise in cholera cases recorded recently.
