HANOI, VIETNAM — On Sunday, October 27, 2024, Yemen's national U-17 football team secured the top position in Group Nine of the AFC qualifiers with a total of seven points, two points ahead of Vietnam, which finished second. This performance qualifies Yemen for the 2025 AFC Championship to be held in Saudi Arabia.
The decisive match ended in a 1-1 draw against Vietnam at the Vithree Stadium, concluding the final round of Group Nine, which also included Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan. Yemen took an early lead with a goal from player Karim Hamdi in the 12th minute. However, Vietnam equalized in the 30th minute of the first half.
Yemen's qualification marks a significant achievement for the team as it prepares to compete on the continental stage.
