On the evening of November 4, 2024, Dr. Ahmed Obaid Ben Dagher, Chairman of Yemen's Shura Council, arrived in Aden, the country's temporary capital, to participate in the upcoming launch of the National Coalition against the Houthi movement, which is classified as a terrorist organization.

According to Ben Dagher’s official social media page, he is in Aden to attend meetings related to the coalition's announcement scheduled for tomorrow.

Earlier on Monday, multiple political and party sources reported that Yemeni political parties had completed the foundational documents for the National Coalition, which aims to unite various political forces opposing the Houthis. Sources confirmed that the coalition has selected Ben Dagher as its president, with the General People's Congress leading the inaugural session.

The coalition will consist of 23 political components, including parties from the National Alliance and other political groupings, such as those representing Hadramawt.

Sources indicated that the supporting parties of the internationally recognized Yemeni government will meet tomorrow to formally launch the coalition, from which the Southern Transitional Council has opted out.

The Southern Transitional Council announced today that it would not participate in the coalition, as stated by spokesperson Salem Thabit Al-Awlaqi in a brief statement on social media. Al-Awlaqi confirmed the council's decision to refrain from joining the coalition and indicated that it would clarify its position on the coalition's outcomes at a later date.

In August, the committee responsible for drafting the coalition's documents announced that it had completed the initial draft after a series of intensive meetings from August 25 to 29. These discussions followed the first meeting of party leaders held in Aden in April 2024.

The coalition aims to unify efforts among all political parties supporting the Yemeni government to enhance state institutions, streamline decision-making, improve service delivery to citizens, alleviate suffering, and restore state authority.
