Security sources reported on November 10, 2024, that Sayun in Hadramout Province has effectively become a security zone following a recent attack that resulted in the deaths of two officers and injuries to others.
According to a report from Xinhua's correspondent in Yemen, Faris Al-Hemyari, security and military forces have deployed multi-task units across the outskirts of Sayun and in main streets, as well as at the entrances and exits of residential neighborhoods.
An unnamed security source stated that “precise checkpoints have been established in search of the shooter who targeted members of the Arab coalition.” The assessment suggests that the assailant remains in Sayun and has not yet managed to leave the area, having reportedly been recruited by an armed group.
The source noted that Sayun is currently "militarily and securely closed," with efforts to locate the shooter involving security forces, units from the First Military Region, and National Shield forces.
Earlier today, the Higher Council of the National Coalition of Political Parties and Components condemned the heinous attack that killed two Saudi military officers and injured a third in Sayun. The coalition expressed heartfelt condolences to the Saudi government and people, praying for the martyrs’ families and wishing a swift recovery to the injured.
According to Yemen's official Saba News Agency, the coalition denounced the crime as targeting Saudi heroes who came to support the Yemeni people against the remnants of the Houthi regime. They described the act as treacherous and contrary to Yemeni values, serving hostile forces that aim to undermine Yemeni-Saudi relations.
The coalition urged swift action by relevant authorities to apprehend the perpetrator and bring him to justice, asserting that such crimes benefit only the enemies of Yemen and Saudi Arabia and will not deter the two nations from restoring security and stability in Yemen.
On Saturday, the security and police administration in Hadramout announced a reward of 30 million Yemeni rials for information leading to the arrest of Sergeant Muhammad Saleh Al-Arousi, the shooter involved in the incident at the coalition forces' site in Sayun.
Reports from November 8 indicated that two Saudi officers were killed and another injured by gunfire from Al-Arousi in the First Military Region, though no official details regarding the circumstances or motives of the incident have been released.
