The first-ever Yemeni Academic Meeting in Malaysia took place on Monday, November 18, 2024, focusing on the crucial role of the Yemeni diaspora in enhancing education and research in Yemen and Malaysia.

Organized by the International Sustainable Research and Education Network (ISREN) and sponsored by the Yemeni Embassy in Malaysia, the meeting highlighted the importance of fostering communication between academics at home and abroad to find innovative solutions to the challenges facing education.

In his keynote address, Yemen's Ambassador to Malaysia, Adel Bahamid, praised the organizers' efforts, stressing that "the only way to save our country from its problems is through science and research." Bahamid also touched on the devastating impact of the Houthi coup on Yemen's education system, which has led to the spread of terrorism, racism, and hatred.

The meeting's chairman, Abdullah Al-Shalif, President of ISREN, emphasized the significance of this event in promoting academic cooperation and research between Yemenis, commending the participating researchers and academics representing Yemeni universities.

The meeting featured three main themes: a working paper on "Quality in University Education in Developing Countries" presented by Dr. Dawood Al-Hadabi, a paper on "The Role of Yemeni Diaspora in Enhancing Research and Education in Yemen" presented by Dr. Nasser Zawayah, and a paper on "The Malaysian Experience in Sustainable Research and Education" presented by Dr. Yasri Yusuf.

The meeting saw a high level of engagement and attendance, with participants stressing the importance of continuing such initiatives to promote academic cooperation and develop Yemen's education system.
