On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council convened for the third time in a week to discuss recent developments on the national and regional fronts, as well as the current economic situation and a review of previous decisions.
The meeting, chaired by Council President Rashad Al-Alimi, included members Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, and Othman Mejalli, and virtual participation from Aidarus Al-Zoubaidi and Faraj Al-Bahsani. Members Sultan Al-Arada, Tariq Saleh, and Abdullah Al-Alimi were excused from the meeting.
According to Yemen's official news agency Saba, the council reviewed its previous decisions and coordinated actions with relevant authorities. It also made several additional decisions regarding issues on its agenda.
The council underscored the importance of expediting the approval and implementation of an economic recovery plan, urging the government to intensify efforts to meet the state’s essential commitments. It also called for strengthening law enforcement agencies and supporting the independence of the Central Bank in managing monetary policy.
During the meeting, Rashad Al-Alimi received briefings from council members on various assigned tasks and the outcomes of their recent meetings with regional allies and international partners, aimed at mobilizing urgent interventions to support the national currency and implement comprehensive reforms.
The council discussed government efforts to secure essential services and goods to alleviate the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the Iran-aligned Houthi group, which is classified as a terrorist organization internationally.
In a related matter, the Yemeni Presidential Council welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire coming into effect in Lebanon early Wednesday. The council expressed hope that this agreement would lead to a comprehensive halt to Israeli aggression and usher in a new era for Lebanon, allowing its citizens to focus on building a fully sovereign nation free from militia dominance.
The council reaffirmed Yemen's stance against the brutal Israeli aggression on Lebanese and Palestinian territories, supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty and advocating against interference in its internal affairs while empowering its army to exercise control over its national territory.
