Kuwait City, Kuwait – Yemen is participating in the 47th Kuwait International Book Fair, which opened at the International Exhibition Center in Kuwait under the theme "The World in a Book."
According to the Yemeni news agency Saba, the fair features 544 publishing houses from 31 countries, including 19 Arab nations and 12 foreign countries.
Yahya Al-Thulaya, head of the Yemeni General Book Authority, stated that Yemen's continued participation in the Kuwait fair reflects the strong relations between Yemen and Kuwait in the fields of publishing and libraries.
Al-Thulaya highlighted Kuwait's historical support for the Yemeni library sector, noting that the National Library in Sana'a was inaugurated in 1970 with a grant from the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and the National Library in Aden opened in 1980.
He explained that the Yemeni pavilion features over 500 important titles, focusing on subjects of interest to Arab readers and Kuwaiti intellectuals, particularly in the areas of Yemen's history and the broader Arabian Peninsula, both ancient and modern.
Jordan is the guest of honor at this year's fair, which also celebrates Kuwaiti author and translator Abdullah Al-Ghanim, who has been named "Personality of the Fair." Al-Ghanim has served as Minister of Education and head of the Kuwait Center for Research and Studies since 1992.
Additionally, Al-Thulaya noted that several discussions are underway at the fair aimed at developing Yemen's library sector, along with preparations for the upcoming International Book Fair in Hadramout.
