On Sunday, December 1, 2024, the internationally recognized Yemeni government condemned the Houthi attack on a popular market in the village of Barmiya, located in the Al-Barasha district of the Maqbana area in western Taiz province. The attack resulted in the deaths and injuries of 16 civilians.
In a statement from the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, officials noted that the Houthis, classified as a terrorist organization, targeted the market with drones during peak shopping hours, branding the act as a "heinous crime that reflects the criminal nature of Houthi militia leaders."
The statement highlighted that this "barbaric terrorist act" occurs amid ongoing military escalation by the Houthis in the Maqbana, Al-Burj, and Al-Kadhah areas, asserting that it constitutes a war crime aimed at terrorizing and displacing residents.
The Ministry of Human Rights urged the United Nations and the international community, particularly the UN Special Envoy for Yemen and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to condemn this atrocious act. It called for a decisive response to such terrorist activities by designating the Houthi group as an international terrorist organization.
The statement also expressed condolences to the victims' families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Earlier reports indicated that six civilians were killed and eight others wounded in the drone strike on the market in the Maqbana district.
