On December 9, 2024, Abdul Wahid Al-Qabali Nimran, head of the Marib branch of the Yemeni Congress, stated that the current moment presents a significant opportunity to reclaim the capital, Sana'a, and eliminate the Iran-backed Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization. He emphasized that the Houthis are currently in a precarious situation, both politically and militarily.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), monitored by Barran Press, Al-Qabali noted the rapid collapse of Iranian influence in the region, asserting that this is an opportune time to dismantle its remaining proxies, particularly the Houthi militias. He pointed out that the Houthis are experiencing fear and uncertainty due to the shifting regional power dynamics that are unfavorable to them.
Al-Qabali urged the legitimate Yemeni government to expedite decisive military action and mobilize all fronts to retake Sana'a and other areas under Houthi control. He expressed his readiness to engage with various Yemeni tribes and social factions to unify efforts in support of the constitutional legitimacy aimed at swiftly eradicating these terrorist militias.
He cautioned against missing this historical opportunity, warning that such moments may not come again. Al-Qabali called on all factions within the legitimate government to set aside their internal disputes and seize this chance to deliver a decisive blow to the Iranian-backed group.
This statement follows the recent announcement by the Syrian armed opposition, declaring their control over Damascus and the fall of President Bashar al-Assad, marking a potential shift in the regional balance of power. The swift collapse of the Assad regime, a key ally of Iran, has shocked other armed groups within the Iranian axis, leading to concerns about their own stability.
