Abyan, Yemen – In a dramatic operation, security forces successfully rescued a Russian national from kidnappers in the mountainous region of Abyan on December 18, 2024. Sources reported that a joint team from Abyan’s security and military forces acted swiftly after receiving alerts about the kidnapping.

According to security officials speaking to Barran Press, the Russian citizen was snatched by an armed gang just hours before the rescue mission was launched. Following the report, Abyan's security forces swiftly mobilized, coordinating with the Third Support and Reinforcement Brigade from the Southern Transitional Council to surround the area where the kidnappers were holding the hostage.

The assailants had reportedly moved the Russian citizen to the Al-Majala area of the Mahfad district. While the specifics of how the kidnapping occurred remain unclear, the motivations behind the abduction have yet to be disclosed.

The security forces managed to free the Russian individual and apprehended several members of the kidnapping gang. Investigations are currently underway to determine the motives behind the kidnapping, with the suspects set to face legal action.
