On Saturday, December 21, 2024, residents of the Northern Hemisphere will experience the shortest day of the year, marking the winter solstice. This astronomical event occurs when the sun is directly overhead at the Tropic of Capricorn, the southernmost point reached by the Earth's axial tilt.

According to astronomical reports followed by "Barran Press," the solstice will occur at 12:28 PM Yemen time, with the sun positioned at approximately 23.43 degrees south of the equator. This day will feature the longest night of the year, as daylight hours dwindle.

On this day, the sun will rise from its furthest southeastern point, casting vertical rays over the Tropic of Capricorn. Following the solstice, the sun will gradually begin its return journey northward, culminating in the summer solstice on June 20, when it will be directly overhead at the Tropic of Cancer, resulting in the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

The winter solstice is not only the peak of winter for the Northern Hemisphere but also the height of summer for the Southern Hemisphere. However, it's important to note that this day does not inherently represent the coldest of the year, as weather conditions in the atmosphere also play a crucial role.
