On December 28, 2024, a local source in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen, reported that two brothers were killed by a relative in Ataq, the provincial capital.

According to the source speaking to Barran Press, the assailant identified as Naif bin Khalid Qais Al-Barasi, shot and killed Salih Salah Al-Habbab and his brother Salem. The incident occurred when Naif ambushed the brothers, opening fire with an automatic Kalashnikov rifle, resulting in their immediate deaths.

The motivation behind the attack was noted to be revenge for the murder of Naif's father, who had been killed earlier this year by the brothers' family.

Shabwa province has been notorious for revenge killings, highlighting the challenges faced by local authorities in curbing such violent retribution.
