TAIZ, Yemen — On January 4, 2025, the Taiz police announced the arrest of nine individuals in connection with the murder of Saif Hamoud Al-Sharabi, the father of journalist Ghadir Al-Sharabi. The arrests were reported by the Yemeni news agency Saba.
According to a police statement, the suspects were apprehended as part of the ongoing investigation into the case. Among those arrested is the second suspect, along with tools allegedly used to assist the main suspect, Walid Shallah, in evading capture.
The police noted that the individuals detained are believed to have aided in concealing the primary perpetrator and have been placed in custody for further investigation and legal action.
The police also reported the recovery of the vehicle used in the crime and detained the driver who facilitated the escape. Authorities have summoned the father of the main suspect for questioning.
Police have vowed to take strict measures against anyone found complicit in shielding the perpetrator or attempting to conceal his whereabouts.
Saif Al-Sharabi was shot dead outside his home in the Al-Masbah neighborhood of Taiz on the evening of the preceding Monday. In a statement, his daughter, journalist Ghadir Al-Sharabi, identified Walid Shallah as the assailant, who opened fire after Saif confronted a group of young men loitering and chewing khat beside his home. Ghadir indicated that two individuals assisted her father's killer during the incident.
