YEMEN — On January 4, 2025, the National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning forecasted extremely cold weather in the coming hours, with widespread frost expected as a cold air mass reaches its peak.

In a weather bulletin reviewed by Barran Press, the center indicated that the mountainous regions, including the provinces of Al-Bayda, Dhamar, Sana'a, Amran, Saada, and the highlands of Al-Dhale, Lahij, Marib, and Al-Jawf, will experience severe cold conditions, with frost likely forming in parts of these areas.

The forecast includes cold to extremely cold weather in the highlands of Ibb, Abyan, Hadhramaut, Al-Mahra, and the desert regions, and cold conditions in the highlands of Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, Raymah, and Taiz.

The center anticipates the formation of cumulus clouds during the day over the western mountainous areas adjacent to the Tihama plain.

Temperatures are expected to drop to -3°C in Dhamar, -2°C in Amran and Al-Bayda, -1°C in Saada, and 0°C in Sana'a by dawn on Sunday.

Coastal areas will experience partly to mostly cloudy skies, particularly in the Socotra Archipelago and southern coasts, with relatively clear and cool weather on the eastern coasts and partly cloudy conditions on the western shores. Moderate to active winds are predicted in the Socotra Archipelago and eastern coasts, with moderate winds along the remaining shores.

The meteorological center warned residents in the mountainous, internal plateau, and desert areas of the cold and extremely cold conditions during the night and early morning hours. Farmers were cautioned about the potential impact of the severe cold on crops, urging them to take necessary precautions to protect them, as well as advising livestock herders and beekeepers to safeguard their animals and hives.
