On January 7, 2025, the Yemeni Journalists' Union urged the Houthi group, which is internationally classified as a terrorist organization, to stop its harassment and mistreatment of journalists and to release all detainees.

In a statement obtained by Barran Press, the union specifically called for the release of journalists Mohammed Al-Miyahi and Fahd Al-Arhabi, highlighting the obscure and arbitrary circumstances surrounding their arrests.

The statement noted that Al-Miyahi has been held by the Houthis in Sana'a since September 21 of last year under unclear and unjust conditions due to his opinions. Meanwhile, Al-Arhabi remains in detention at the group's security and intelligence facility in Amran, where his health has reportedly deteriorated amid increasing concerns for his well-being. He has been targeted due to his coverage of community issues in the region.

The union condemned the continued detention of both journalists as "arbitrary and illegal," emphasizing the difficult and unhealthy conditions of their confinement. It called for their immediate release along with all other imprisoned journalists.

The statement also addressed the case of forcibly disappeared journalist Wahid Al-Sufi, who has been missing since April 2015, and the detention of Nabiel Al-Sidawi, an employee of the Yemeni News Agency "Saba." The union noted that the Houthis continue to refuse Al-Sidawi's release despite a court ruling that stipulated his sentence was sufficient.
