Houthi Attack on Military Positions in Marakhah Al-Ulya Repelled

SHABWA, Yemen — On January 7, 2025, a field source reported that Yemeni forces successfully repelled an attack by Houthi militants, classified as a terrorist organization, targeting military sites in Marakhah Al-Ulya district, western Shabwa province.

The source, speaking to Barran Press, described the assault as a sudden and intense offensive launched by Houthi fighters against positions held by the 2nd Brigade of the Sabaean Axis and Shabwa Defense forces. The confrontation lasted for several hours.

According to the report, the Sabaean Axis and Shabwa Defense forces were able to withstand the attack after engaging in heavy clashes using various medium, light, and heavy weapons.

The fighting concluded with the Houthis retreating to their positions in the mountainous areas overlooking the district from the direction of Al-Bayda province.

Iranian-backed Houthi elements are known to be positioned in several highlands on the western outskirts of Shabwa, which borders Al-Bayda and Harib in southern Marib.
