The United Nations has appealed for $2.47 billion to support its 2025 humanitarian response plan for Yemen, addressing the urgent needs of over 19.5 million people impacted by the conflict and crisis, exacerbated by the Iran-backed Houthis.
Julian Harneis, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, emphasized the need for this support to reach the most vulnerable and provide life-saving assistance to 10.5 million people. Last year’s efforts reached over 8 million people with more than $1.4 billion in aid.
Harneis noted that the current needs demand a more comprehensive response to stabilize the situation and build community resilience. Nearly half of Yemen's population faces severe food insecurity, and over 13 million people lack access to clean drinking water, with 40% of health facilities partially or non-functional.
Last year, the UN requested $2.7 billion but received only minimal pledges, leading to significant gaps in addressing targeted needs.
