A Yemeni human rights network claims it has documented nearly 450 cases of abduction, enforced disappearance, and torture of women committed by the Houthi group in areas under their control. The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms stated on Monday, June 30, 2025, that these alleged abuses occurred between January 2021 and January 2025.
In a statement obtained by "Baran Press," the network asserted that these "grave violations" are taking place "in the complete absence of international oversight" and often amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Over 1,400 Women Killed by Houthis
The report also detailed a grim toll: during the same period, the Houthis were reportedly responsible for the deaths of 1,456 women and injuries to 2,379 others. These casualties stemmed from indiscriminate artillery shelling, exploding mines and improvised explosive devices in civilian areas, sniper attacks, and the use of live ammunition.
Urgent Plea for International Intervention
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms is urging the international community and organizations dedicated to protecting women and children to "take immediate action to condemn these violations, hold perpetrators accountable, and provide necessary support to victims and their families."
The group also emphasized the critical need to include the Houthi group on lists of entities accused of committing severe violations against women. The network called on the United Nations and human rights organizations to pressure the Houthis to allow international investigation teams access to affected areas to accurately document these alleged crimes and implement urgent measures to stop the "ongoing atrocities against women and children in Yemen."
