The Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen, "Masam," announced on Monday, June 30, 2025, a significant operation to destroy a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the Wadi Dofas area of Zinjibar district, Abyan governorate, southern Yemen.
The Masam project's media center stated on its website, as monitored by "Baran Press," that a specialized team — the First Special Missions Team — successfully detonated 4,620 pieces of ammunition and war remnants. These included 155 assorted shells, 235 various fuses, 85 armor-piercing solid projectiles, 4,096 assorted bullets, 13 anti-personnel mines, 5 anti-tank mines, and 31 hand grenades.
Engineer Mundher Qassem, leader of the First Special Missions Team, confirmed that the operation was carried out successfully in a safe area, far from residential gatherings and agricultural zones, with full adherence to international standards despite field challenges.
According to UN reports, approximately two million mines planted by the internationally designated terrorist Houthi group across various areas they reached have resulted in the death or injury of over 20,000 civilians, predominantly women and children.
