European Union has condemned the recent abductions by the Iran-backed Houthi group, classified internationally as terrorists, targeting United Nations staff. The EU mission in Yemen called for the immediate release of all detained UN, NGO, and diplomatic staff, warning that these abductions threaten urgent humanitarian aid to Yemen.
Sources revealed that the number of aid workers arrested by the Houthis in Sana’a has risen to 22, including staff from the UN World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, a British development program, and the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for the release of all detained aid workers, noting Yemen's dire humanitarian crisis. The abductions follow former US President Donald Trump’s order to re-list the Houthis as a terrorist organization.
