Shohood, a human rights organization, reported on Sunday that a civilian was killed by a landmine explosion in the Nihm district, east of Sana'a. The landmine was one of many planted by the Iran-backed Houthi group.
In a statement shared with Barran Press, Shohood identified the victim as Ali Makhbout Al-Asimi, a 44-year-old resident of Hanashat in Nihm. Al-Asimi was herding sheep in Jabal Yam when the landmine detonated, killing him instantly.
According to UN reports, the Houthis have planted an estimated two million landmines across areas under their control, resulting in over 20,000 civilian casualties, including numerous women and children. Human rights organizations have accused the Houthis of turning Yemen into the world's largest minefield and have called on the group to provide minefield maps to demining organizations.
