The Iran-backed Houthi group has extended the detention of Yemeni journalist Mohammed al-Miyahi by 45 days, according to sources in Sana'a on Tuesday.
Al-Miyahi has been detained since September 2024.
His lawyer, Ammar Ali Yassin, said on Facebook that al-Miyahi's case was supposed to be referred to the Press Prosecution, but a Houthi prosecutor requested a detention extension instead.
Yassin criticized the move as illegal, noting that Houthi intelligence had already held al-Miyahi for four months before the case was sent to prosecution. He added that al-Miyahi's refusal to be interrogated, citing his right to remain silent, has been used by the Houthis to exert psychological pressure.
Al-Miyahi was transferred to a special press and publications court on January 13, 2025, facing charges related to his journalism. He was abducted by the Houthis after publishing an article critical of the group.
