Marib marked the 77th anniversary of the 1948 Constitutional Revolution on Monday, celebrating the end of Imam Yahya Hamiduddin's rule. The revolution was ignited by Sheikh Ali Nasser Al-Qarda’i, who assassinated the Imam.
The commemoration, organized by the "Descendants of Al-Qarda’i Movement," included the launch of a collection of Al-Qarda’i's poetry. The event highlighted Al-Qarda'i's role in sparking the revolution against the Imamate rule, both through armed resistance and his powerful poetry. Marib's undersecretery, Ali Al-Fatimi, emphasized that Al-Qarda'i and his comrades initiated the revolution in response to the Yemeni people's aspirations for liberation from dynastic rule. He noted that Al-Qarda'i's actions in 1948 served as a catalyst for subsequent uprisings, including the movements in Taiz in 1955 and the tribal revolt of 1959, culminating in the September 26th Revolution.
Al-Fatimi also criticized the Iran-backed Houthis’ attempts to rewrite history and reaffirmed the Yemeni army's dedication to the revolutions’ original goals.
Sheikh Sadiq Al-Qarda’i, head of the movement, praised Al-Qarda’i's courage and lasting legacy. Other speakers at the event emphasized his revolutionary contributions and condemned the Imamate's historical efforts to diminish his impact.
The event, attended by civil, security, and military leaders, featured poetry recitations and musical performances.
