On Saturday, security forces in Shabwah Governorate, eastern Yemen, detained 70 illegal migrants from various African countries attempting to enter via the Al-Shujayra coast. According to a Shabwa Police statement released by the Ministry of Interior’s media center, the group was intercepted aboard a boat named "Al-Ustura." The vessel carried 30 men from the Horn of Africa and 40 others of Somali and Ethiopian descent.

The district police collaborated with the naval brigade, coast guard, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to address the situation. Earlier, the IOM reported that 15,400 African migrants entered Yemen in January 2025, mostly from Djibouti (89%), comprising 21% children, 22% women, and 57% men—a 25% drop from the 20,435 recorded in December 2024.
