The United Nations is seeking guarantees to ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid and essential goods to Yemen following the U.S. designation of the Iran-backed Houthi movement as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stressed the critical need for assurances to maintain aid and civilian trade amidst the new designation, emphasizing the UN's unwavering focus on the dire humanitarian situation and saving lives.
The U.S. State Department announced the FTO designation earlier today, citing the Houthis' escalating attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as well as their threats to regional stability and U.S. interests. The State Department also announced a $15 million reward for information leading to the disruption of the Houthis' financial networks.
