Taiz Authorities Ban Mwatana Over Alleged Houthi Ties

Local authorities in Taiz governorate, Yemen, have reportedly banned the human rights organization "Mwatana for Human Rights" from operating within the province, citing alleged links to the Houthi movement.

A leaked directive from Taiz's Social Affairs and Labor Office, instructed hotels and tourism facilities to deny Mwatana, its president Radhya Al-Mutawakel, and its representatives access to event spaces or the ability to hold gatherings.

The ban followed instructions from the Deputy Governor of Taiz and accusations that Mwatana, despite not being licensed by the provincial Social Affairs office, promoted a "suspicious agenda" benefiting the Houthis. While internationally recognized, the NGO has faced criticism from anti-Houthi factions who accuse it of downplaying Houthi actions.
