Two children sustained leg injuries on Saturday when a sniper from the Iran-backed Houthi group opened fire on them west of Taiz city in southwest Yemen.
Medical sources at a local hospital confirmed that Suleiman Fahd Haza’a, 14, and Mohammed Mansour Ali Abdulrahman, 12, were wounded while sitting on a water delivery truck near the Domaina water well in Al-Ta’iziyah district.
The truck driver, an eyewitness, reported to Barran Press that the shooting occurred around 5 PM as he filled the tanker at the well, with the children nearby. He stated that a Houthi sniper positioned on "Al-Mudrajat" hill targeted the children, hitting them in the legs, after which he transported them for immediate medical attention.
Human rights reports indicated that Houthis were responsible for a high number of civilian casualties in Taiz province between 2015 and 2023, including 3,021 deaths and 6,361 injuries, resulting from sniper fire, shelling, and landmines, impacting women and children significantly.
