Israeli Military Intercepts Missile Launched by Yemen's Houthis, Explosions Heard in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv

The Israeli military announced today that it intercepted a missile launched by the Iran-backed Houthi group from Yemen. The incident triggered multiple explosions heard in the Jerusalem area and east of Tel Aviv.

Avichay Adraee, the Israeli military spokesperson, stated in a post on X, that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) successfully intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, which had activated air raid sirens in several regions.

In an earlier post, Adraee had reported the detection of the incoming missile and confirmed that air defense systems were engaged in its interception.

This latest launch followed retaliatory strikes conducted by Israel, including the destruction of Sana'a Airport, the port of Hodeidah, cement factories in Amran and Bajil of Hudeidah, and power stations in Sana'a. These actions were in response to a previous Houthi missile explosion near Ben Gurion Airport last Sunday.

Just yesterday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a stern warning to the Houthi group, vowing "painful strikes" if they continued their attacks.
"The Houthis will receive painful strikes from Israel if they continue to fire at us," Minister Gallant stated. "We will not allow any party to harm Israel, and the IDF is prepared for any mission."

Addressing Iran, which Israel accuses of funding, arming, and directing the Houthi group, Gallant asserted, "The era of proxy wars is over, and the axis of evil has collapsed. You bear direct responsibility. What we did to Hezbollah in Beirut, to Assad in Damascus, and to the Houthis in Yemen, we will do to you in Tehran."

The interception of this latest missile further escalates tensions in the region, highlighting the reach and capabilities of the Houthi group and the potential for a broader conflict involving Iran and its proxies. Israeli authorities have yet to provide details on any potential damage or casualties resulting from the intercepted missile.
