The internationally recognized Yemeni government, on Tuesday, urged the international community to fulfill its legal and humanitarian responsibilities and take urgent action to stop the escalating military aggression by Israeli occupation forces in northern and southern Gaza. It also demanded that necessary protection be provided for the Palestinian people.
In a statement released by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Yemeni government condemned in the strongest terms Israel's military escalation in Gaza and the occupation's continued control over vast areas of the Strip.
The Yemeni government described these Israeli escalations and violations as "a deliberate undermining of regional and international efforts aimed at ending the war, hindering opportunities for achieving peace and stability in the region."
The statement reiterated Yemen's condemnation of Israel's ground operations, emphasizing the direct threat they pose to Palestinian civilian lives and the continuous exacerbation of humanitarian suffering among Gaza's residents.
Recent Escalation and Humanitarian Impact
Over the past few days, Israeli occupation forces launched a devastating new ground assault on Gaza over the weekend, coinciding with intensified aerial bombardment. This has resulted in the martyrdom of at least 500 people and injuries to over 1,000 others, predominantly women and children, according to health officials in Gaza.
Last Thursday, the Israeli army announced its forces had advanced into northern and southern Gaza the previous day as part of "Operation Gideon's Chariots." Israel had warned this operation would commence if Hamas did not agree to a new prisoner exchange deal on its terms.
With American backing, Israel has been committing what the Yemeni government terms "genocide" in Gaza since October 7, 2023. This has resulted in the martyrdom of approximately 51,000 Palestinians and injuries to 115,000, predominantly children and women, in addition to over 11,000 missing persons. The region has also witnessed massive destruction and a famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children and elderly individuals, marking one of the worst humanitarian disasters globally.
In parallel with the events in Gaza, the Israeli army and settlers have expanded their attacks in Jenin and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. This has led to the killing of nearly 1,000 Palestinians and the injury of approximately 7,000, according to official Palestinian data.
