Israeli forces struck Sanaa International Airport on Wednesday, destroying the last remaining operational Yemenia Airways plane under Houthi control. This latest strike brings the total number of Yemenia aircraft destroyed at the airport to four.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense confirmed the airstrikes, stating they targeted assets belonging to the Houthi group. In a statement seen by Bran Press, the ministry declared, "The strikes constitute a clear message that whoever fires at us will pay a heavy price. We will continue to inflict severe damage on Yemeni ports and will repeatedly target the airport and infrastructure."

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the strikes by Israeli Air Force fighter jets. "Air Force planes shortly ago bombed terrorist targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist organization at Sanaa Airport, destroying the last plane that was still in use by the Houthis," he added.

This incident follows a series of Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport on May 6, which reportedly involved 15 raids. Those attacks rendered the airport inoperable, damaging civilian aircraft, runways, and the passenger terminal, and resulted in the destruction of three other Yemenia Airways planes.

Prior to the latest strike, Yemenia Airways had announced on May 24, 2025, the return of one of its fleet aircraft from Amman, Jordan. This was in preparation for the resumption of Hajj pilgrim flights from Sanaa International Airport, amidst ongoing rehabilitation efforts to repair facilities affected by previous Israeli bombing.

The internationally recognized Yemeni government has held the Houthi group responsible for the losses incurred by Yemenia Airways, including the destruction of its three aircraft in the May 6 bombing. Western reports indicated that those three destroyed planes were not insured.

According to a statement from the Yemeni Ministry of Transport, the Houthi group bears full responsibility for the significant losses and destruction suffered by Yemenia Airways. The ministry asserts that the three destroyed aircraft were illegally detained by the Houthis at Sanaa International Airport when it was subjected to the airstrikes.
