Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman, Rashad Al-Alimi, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, called on the newly formed government under Prime Minister Salem bin Bureik to prioritize "self-reliance and decisive victory." His remarks came during the cabinet's inaugural meeting in Aden, the interim capital, according to the official Yemeni News Agency (SABA).

Al-Alimi emphasized that the government faces a "monumental national task" of institutional building, economic and service recovery, and completing the "battle for salvation" to restore the state. He stressed the importance of internal stability, fiscal austerity, and developing non-oil revenues. The chairman also urged boosting partnerships with the private sector and activating anti-corruption measures.

He affirmed that the "battle for salvation" to restore state institutions remains a top priority, characterizing the conflict as "between the state and non-state, between order and chaos." Al-Alimi reiterated that any desired peace must be based on internationally agreed-upon references, particularly UN Resolution 2216.
Leadership Returns Amidst Deepening Crises
Al-Alimi's call comes as he and Prime Minister bin Breik returned to Aden on Saturday amidst a worsening economic crisis, deteriorating public services, and a plummeting local currency. Official media reported their return as part of efforts to address the escalating situation.

Aden, serving as the interim capital, is grappling with a near-total collapse of its electricity system, experiencing over 22 hours of daily power outages. This severe crisis has triggered widespread protests by city residents, particularly women, against the dire living conditions and lack of government solutions.
