The Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen, MASAM, announced Sunday, June 22, 2025, that its engineering teams have removed close to 3,699 landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) across liberated areas of Yemen since the beginning of June.

According to a statement released by MASAM, the total number of explosives cleared between June 1 and June 20 included 3,538 unexploded ordnance, 151 anti-tank mines, and 10 anti-personnel mines, in addition to several IEDs.
In the past week alone, MASAM teams successfully disposed of 1,243 explosive items, comprising 1,182 UXO, 57 anti-tank mines, and 4 anti-personnel mines.

The statement also highlighted that MASAM teams cleared 315,710 square meters of contaminated land in various governorates during the same period. This brings the total area cleared since the project's inception in 2018 to a staggering 67,748,706 square meters.

UN reports indicate that the Houthi group, internationally designated as a terrorist organization, has planted approximately two million landmines in areas they controlled. These mines have resulted in over 20,000 civilian casualties, with the majority being women and children.
Human rights reports accuse the Houthis of "transforming Yemen into the largest minefield ever," due to the extensive number of mines planted. Human rights organizations have repeatedly called on the Houthi group to hand over maps of the landmines they have laid to demining organizations.
