In a move towards modernization, the internationally recognized Yemeni government has launched a new digital system, "Yalamlam," to manage the pilgrimage process for the upcoming Hajj season. The Ministry of Endowments and Guidance announced the system's launch on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024, aiming to improve services and enhance monitoring mechanisms for the estimated 24,255 Yemeni pilgrims.
The "Digital System for Pilgrims and Umrah Performers (Yalamlam)" seeks to leverage technology to streamline the pilgrimage experience. Bakr Mahmoud, General Director of the Ministry's Information Center, highlighted the system's role in "digital transformation and developing the ministry's electronic infrastructure."
"Yalamlam" has already registered the data of 24,255 pilgrims and has begun distributing electronic cards to agencies for printing and delivery. These cards contain vital information about each pilgrim, including a barcode for accessing their data, locating their accommodation, submitting complaints, and even tracking their location in case of emergencies.
The launch of "Yalamlam" coincides with the commencement of pilgrim flights from Sana'a International Airport to the holy lands. On Tuesday, May 28th, four flights carrying 403 pilgrims departed from Sana'a via Yemeni Airways, marking the beginning of the pilgrimage season. Additional flights are scheduled from Aden International Airport (8 flights, 950 pilgrims) and Rayyan Airport in Hadramaut (137 pilgrims).
This initiative underscores the Yemeni government's commitment to utilizing technology to enhance services and improve the overall pilgrimage experience for its citizens. The introduction of "Yalamlam" marks a significant step towards a more efficient and digitally-driven Hajj season.
