Five members of a family were killed and two others injured on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, after their home collapsed in the city of Al-Ghaydah, the capital of Mahra Governorate in eastern Yemen.
According to local sources, the tragedy occurred in the Al-Abri area of Al-Ghaydah district when a solar energy system installed in the family's home exploded, causing the house to collapse.
The sources identified the deceased as:
- Nawal Ali Ahmed Ra'fit (4 years old)
- Amina Mohammed Saeed Kada (21 years old)
- Salem Mohammed Saeed Kada (35 years old)
- Noura Mohammed Saeed Kada (30 years old)
The explosion is believed to have been caused by overheating batteries in the solar panel system. The incident highlights the potential dangers associated with improper installation and maintenance of solar energy systems.
