Marib Governorate Deputy, Abd Rabbu Muftah, welcomed a group of travelers arriving through the newly reopened Al-Bayda-Marib road on Tuesday evening, June 4, 2024. The group, led by several prominent social figures, marked a significant step towards easing travel restrictions imposed by the Houthi group.

Muftah, during a meeting with the travelers, highlighted Marib's commitment to opening roads and alleviating the suffering of Yemeni citizens. He accused the Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization by the international community, of deliberately obstructing travel, citing months of delays in reopening the road.

"Marib has been ready for months, while the Houthi group has been evading responsibility, leading to road closures," Muftah stated. He emphasized the importance of security and military authorities taking necessary measures, noting that the Houthi group's actions are driven by political, military, and media gains.

Muftah expressed hope that the Houthi group would cease obstructing the Marib-Farda Nahm-Sana'a road, the shortest route connecting Marib and Sana'a, which can be traversed in just 90 minutes. He reiterated the local authority's commitment to facilitating travel for all citizens, urging pressure on the Houthi group to expedite the opening of all closed roads, particularly those leading to the besieged Taiz Governorate.

Omar Mohammed Al-Day'a, representing the travelers, emphasized the humanitarian nature of the initiative, stating that "the humanitarian work aims to alleviate the suffering of citizens, and currently there are vehicles of citizens that have been allowed to pass." He also mentioned that vehicles from different regions joined the journey without prior coordination.

Al-Dayah stressed the right of security and military authorities to take the necessary time to complete security and technical procedures for safe passage.

The reopening of the Al-Bayda-Marib road marks a significant step towards easing travel restrictions and alleviating the suffering of Yemeni citizens. However, the continued obstruction of other key routes, particularly those leading to Taiz, remains a pressing concern.
