Colonel Sadiq Muawwadah, the commander of the 312th Infantry Brigade, stated on Sunday, June 9, 2024, that the Yemeni armed forces "exist to secure the lives of citizens, their routes, protect them, and defend them."

Colonel Muawwadah affirmed in a statement to "Barran Press" and other media outlets that the Marib-Bayda road is now ready for the passage of all citizens and all civilian vehicles, including cars, trucks, and buses.

He said, "Today, we are very pleased to alleviate the suffering of citizens and witness the people of Yemen traveling on a safe and paved road, which is considered a right of the Yemeni people."

Muawwadah pointed out that "the armed forces exist to serve citizens, defend them, and secure them," emphasizing that "the army had no reservations or obstacles regarding the road, and it was the other party that closed it and refused to open the roads."

He explained that the area through which the Marib-Bayda road passes is a "hot war zone," stressing that the armed forces have taken sufficient measures to protect travelers and ensure the continuous opening of the road, unless there are obstacles from the other party, as he put it.

Today, Sunday, residents and travelers confirmed the reopening of the Marib-Bayda-Sanaa road, and the passage of vehicles through it, immediately after a member of the Presidential Council announced its opening from noon today, after nearly three years of closure and replacement with the Jawf Desert Road.

"Barran Press" obtained exclusive photos showing the first vehicle passing through the Marib-Bayda road after its reopening, as well as the passage of other vehicles, including heavy trucks.

The Marib-Bayda road was closed in the year 2021 due to clashes between the Yemeni army and the armed Houthi group designated internationally as a terrorist organization in the southern directorates of Marib Governorate. The desert road between Marib, Jawf, Nahm, and Sanaa was used as an alternative to the Bayda route.

Meanwhile, the main and closest road between Sanaa and Marib (Marib-Nahm-Sanaa) remains closed, despite nearly three months since the local authorities announced its opening from one side on February 22. The Houthis refuse to cooperate on their part.
