The European Union (EU) delegation to Yemen announced on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, that it had held a series of "dialogues" in Brussels aimed at promoting renewable energy in the war-torn country.

The delegation, in a post on the social media platform X, seen by Barran Press, stated that these dialogues, conducted in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), are "part of the program to enhance economic resilience in Yemen."

The EU delegation described the discussions as "extensive" and said they aim to "boost the renewable energy sector and facilitate trade and investment in Yemen."

Earlier in June, the EU delegation held a series of meetings in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, where they reaffirmed their support for efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, halt the economic collapse, and provide basic services to citizens, particularly electricity.

According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, the EU delegation met with Aidarous al-Zubaidi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and head of the Southern Transitional Council. The meeting focused on the economic crisis facing Yemen due to the ongoing halt of oil and gas exports, the humanitarian suffering experienced by citizens in Aden and other governorates due to electricity and water shortages, and the delay in salary payments.

The delegation also discussed with al-Zubaidi the recent measures taken by the Central Bank leadership in Aden to counter the Houthis' manipulation of the economy and the latest developments related to the UN-led peace process aimed at ending the conflict and establishing peace in Yemen and the region.

In a separate meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank, Ahmed Ghalib, at the bank's headquarters in Aden, the EU delegation expressed its understanding of the recent measures and decisions taken by the Yemeni Central Bank in Aden to rescue the Yemeni banking sector from ongoing Houthi violations, particularly after the group was designated as a terrorist organization.
