The internationally recognized Yemeni government has expressed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with China and reactivating the Yemen-China Joint Committee.

This commitment was conveyed by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Waed Bazeeb, during a virtual meeting with the chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Yemen, Shao Zheng, on Tuesday.

The conversation focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in development sectors and revitalizing the activities of the joint committee.

Both sides discussed key topics, including the coordination of development grants through the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), prioritizing projects, strengthening cooperation in humanitarian assistance, and reactivating communication channels between the two countries at all levels.

Minister Bazeeb raised the possibility of allocating Chinese grants, sharing project proposals with relevant authorities, and directly negotiating with CIDCA to coordinate grant distribution.

Bazeeb emphasized the significance of Chinese assistance in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people and improving their living conditions, expressing gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their continued support to Yemen.

He highlighted that cooperation with China would significantly contribute to achieving sustainable development and improving the lives of Yemenis, expressing the government's aspiration for further collaboration and partnership with China in the future.

According to Yemen's official news agency Saba, the Chinese chargé d'affaires reaffirmed his country's support for Yemen in various fields.

Shao Zheng emphasized the importance of strengthening development and economic cooperation between the two countries, exchanging expertise and technology in vital sectors such as water and sanitation, agriculture, industry, and renewable energy.

In late May, the Yemeni and Chinese governments signed a cooperation agreement to provide 50 million yuan (approximately $7 million) to support the implementation of development projects and humanitarian assistance in Yemen.

The agreement was signed by Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak during his official visit to Beijing and by CIDCA President Luo Zhaohui on behalf of the Chinese side.
