Houthi rebels, designated as a terrorist group by the international community, launched an attack near the recently opened "Al-Kamb" road in eastern Taiz, according to official military sources.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, June 23, 2024, targeted the "Kilaba" area, located close to the "Al-Kamb - Qasr Roundabout" road that was reopened to civilians earlier this month.
The Taiz Military Axis Media Center, affiliated with the Yemeni army, reported that government forces successfully repelled a Houthi infiltration attempt in Kilaba. The center also stated that Houthi fighters simultaneously targeted other army positions in Wadi Sala with RPGs.
The center further reported that the Houthis launched a barrage of medium-caliber weapons and mortar shells against the "Al-Krifat" area, located east of the city, on Saturday night. The Yemeni army responded to the attacks, emphasizing its vigilance and readiness to counter any Houthi provocations or attempts.
The "Al-Kamb - Qasr Roundabout" road was reopened on June 13, 2024, after being closed for nine years by the Houthis. This marked the first breach in the Houthi siege of the city.
The road's reopening occurred despite the Houthis' consistent refusal and their insistence on alternative routes, according to local authorities in Taiz.
