The Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) in Aden, the temporary capital of the country, has denied reports circulating online that it has banned the import of goods, including vegetables, from Sana'a and areas controlled by the Houthi group.

In a statement released on its official website on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, and seen by Barran Press, the CBY emphasized that all its decisions and directives are exclusively communicated through its official website and social media platforms.

"The bank is committed to ensuring the accuracy and clarity of information, preventing any attempts at misinformation or the spread of false news," the statement read.

The CBY urged the public to disregard any information or instructions disseminated through unofficial media channels and rely solely on its official channels, which include:

  • The CBY's official website: http://www.cby-ye.com
  • The CBY's official social media pages: Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn.

On Monday, June 24, social media users and media outlets shared a purported directive from the CBY in Aden prohibiting the import of goods, including vegetables, from Sana'a and Houthi-controlled areas using Saudi Riyals, US Dollars, or the old Yemeni Rial.
