A civilian was killed by tribal gunmen in a revenge attack in the Lower Marakha district of Shabwah governorate, eastern Yemen.

Sources told “Barran Press” that armed elements from the "Al-Dawla Al-Awaliq" tribe ambushed Salem bin Hussein Al-Maqrahi in the "Wasit" market, firing upon him with bullets and killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.

The incident is reportedly linked to an old tribal feud between the “Al-Maqaraha” tribe, residing in Marakha, and the “Al-Dawla Al-Awaliq” tribe, based in “Nasaab” in western Shabwah.

Meanwhile, in the Sa'eed district (southwest of the governorate), a joint military force from the Giants Brigades and Shabwah Defense Forces, led by Brigadier General Ahmed Mohsen Al-Sulaimani, arrived in the district on Tuesday evening to enforce a complete ceasefire between the “Al-Abu Bakr bin Farid” and “Al-Ahmed bin Farid” families.

The military force demanded hostages from both parties to guarantee an end to the ongoing fighting, which lasted for two days. However, neither party has complied as of press time (9:00 PM).

Earlier in the day, tribal sources for Barran Press reported that tribal mediation efforts to halt the heavy weapons clashes between the two families, both belonging to the Al-Awaliq tribe, had failed.

The clashes in the Sa'eed region, which resumed on Tuesday after the failure of mediation efforts, have been ongoing since Monday.

On Monday, heavy weapons clashes erupted between the “Al-Ahmed bin Farid” and “Al-Abu Bakr bin Farid” families in Sa'eed, fueled by an old feud.

On Saturday, June 29, violent clashes broke out between the Al-Dif Allah and Al-Ishaq tribes in the Asilan district, northwest of the governorate, following the killing of Zayed Al-Kuram Al-Difli by members of the Al-Ishaq tribe in the Al-Nqoub market.

According to tribal sources, the incident triggered heavy weapons clashes between the two tribes in the "Ara" area, south of Asilan, resulting in the deaths of Fahd Aziz Al-Musla Al-Difli and Mujahid Saleh Mubarak Shreifa Al-Difli, and the injuries of Mfaraj Al-Kuram Al-Difli, Qasim Al-Musla Al-Difli, and Awad Hatrouch Al-Sahaqi.

Shabwah governorate, currently under the control of the Southern Transitional Council, has been witnessing continuous tribal killings and clashes stemming from revenge attacks or land disputes. The governorate is experiencing unprecedented security instability.
