Eight civilians, including women and children, were killed and injured on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in a shelling attack by Houthi militants in the Sabr district of Taiz governorate, southwestern Yemen.
According to the official Yemen News Agency (Saba), the Houthis, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, launched a barrage of shells on the Shaqb area in Sabr, resulting in casualties.
The agency reported that one man and two children were killed, while five women and children were injured in the village of Habour in the Shaqb area. The injured were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This attack comes just days after the Houthis launched a similar artillery attack on villages and populated areas west of Taiz on Saturday, July 6.
Saba reported that the Houthis continue to indiscriminately shell villages in the Dhabab area from their positions in Al-Sittin and Al-Rabi'i, causing significant damage to homes and property. The shelling has also instilled fear and panic among residents, particularly women and children.
In recent weeks, the Houthis have intensified their shelling of civilians in several governorates, including Marib and Taiz. These attacks coincide with Houthi military movements that followed the successful opening of major roads in the two governorates, which the group had blocked for years, restricting civilian movement.
