The first scientific medical conference at Taiz University kicked off on Sunday, July 21, 2024, bringing together a constellation of doctors and academics with the aim of advancing the medical field through research and scientific papers.

According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, the two-day conference will see 500 doctors participate in person, while another 600 will join virtually.

The conference will feature four workshops, 76 research papers and scientific lectures, and presentations by 63 doctors from various specialties, including 11 from outside Yemen.

During the conference's opening ceremony, Taiz Deputy Governor Dr. Abdulqawi al-Makhlafi emphasized that the scientific conferences and diverse events hosted by the governorate reflect the bright side and scientific and educational progress amidst the challenges facing the region.

He commended the university administration for its efforts in selecting the nature of scientific conferences, participants, and discussions on the medical reality and future prospects, ultimately benefiting medical professionals. He also highlighted the accompanying events, charitable camps, and scientific exhibitions, showcasing the university's commitment to fulfilling its goals of serving the community.

Taiz University President Dr. Mohammed al-Shaibi stated that the first medical conference will represent a significant leap in scientific cooperation between universities, utilizing its outcomes to serve the educational and research processes, strengthening scientific collaboration, and exchanging expertise between faculties and universities. He also noted the goal of producing recommendations reflecting the importance of medical research.

Al-Shaibi explained that the conference aims to address challenges with a high level of knowledge and objectivity, following a scientific approach that achieves quality in medical education and improves scientific outputs at Yemeni universities.

Dr. Jamal al-Amri, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Taiz University, said the conference is an excellent opportunity to enhance communication and exchange ideas and experiences among doctors, researchers, and healthcare professionals in various fields.

He added that the Faculty of Medicine in Taiz is striving to improve the academic and research levels of its students and faculty through such scientific events, which provide an opportunity to discuss developments, identify challenges facing healthcare in Yemen, and find suitable solutions to the community's health problems.
