Yemen's Ambassador to China, Dr. Mohammed Al-Maitami, emphasized the importance of cooperation and partnership between Yemeni and Chinese businesses on Monday, July 29, 2024.

Al-Maitami made the statement during a speech delivered on behalf of diplomatic missions participating in an event organized by the Diplomatic Services Office in Beijing, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.

The ambassador highlighted the quality and innovation of Chinese brands, stating they have become "symbols of quality and innovation," thus strengthening their position in global markets. He also touched upon the Belt and Road Initiative, emphasizing its potential to "enhance openness and cooperation between nations, paving the way for new chapters of cultural exchange and lasting friendships between peoples."

According to Al-Maitami, the initiative will contribute to "building bridges of communication and cooperation between different countries, opening new horizons for sustainable development and economic partnerships."

The event, according to Saba, aimed to showcase Chinese global brands participating in the Paris Olympics, highlighting China's significant progress in various industrial and commercial sectors, particularly in relation to brands featured at this global sporting event.

In late June, the Yemeni government and the People's Republic of China signed a memorandum of understanding to revive, renew, and develop bilateral relations in the fields of traditional and renewable energy and electrical equipment.

The agreement, according to Yemeni state media, was signed with the Chinese company for energy and electrical equipment (TBEA Co. lTD), by the Yemeni ambassador to China, Dr. Mohammed Al-Maitami, in the presence of the chairman of the Chinese company and a member of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Zhang Xin.

In the same month, the internationally recognized Yemeni government called for a "serious" return of Chinese institutions and companies to Yemen to complete commercial and construction activities that were halted due to the Houthi militia's coup, which is internationally classified as a terrorist organization.

This call came during a meeting between the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mohammed Al-Ashwal, in Beijing, and the Vice President of the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Yu Jianlong, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.

Minister Al-Ashwal stated that the "return of Chinese companies to invest in Yemen will contribute to the sustainability of economic peace and overcoming humanitarian challenges."

He emphasized that Yemen "expects much from infrastructure projects, and hopes for the People's Republic of China's support with its expertise and the bilateral relations that bind the two countries."

He highlighted Yemen's strategic location, making it a cornerstone of the Belt and Road Initiative, and called for a partnership between the Yemeni and Chinese governments in various fields, including energy, electricity, and the development of Yemeni ports, which are considered an important station on the Maritime Silk Road.
